SWEN ERIK SCHEUERLING

Works:

"Swen Erik Scheuerlings installations are based on an interaction between room specific elements and live-video-constructions.

They remind of 'reversible figures', revealing space, movement and perception as an unstable moment. Scheuerling is dealing with formations, that become visible, when something is falling or got out of the joints. With his works he oscillates between instability and easiness; challenging playfully for states of suspense. Instead of freezing moving images, he develops images that arise from movement and action itself. Often they cause effects of a rotation losing its center and topple the relationship of its surroundings."

Swen Erik Scheuerling (*1980) graduated 2009 at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. He took repeatedly part at Real Presence, an international exchange project for young artists in Belgrade, Venezia and Rivoli. He was lecturer at the Bern University of the Arts and the HFBK Hamburg and received scholarships such as the working grant for visual art Hamburg or the working grant of the Karl H. Ditze Foundation. His installations and videoworks were shown i.a. at Deichtorhallen Hamburg/Sammlung Falckenberg, Gallery Helper New York, das weisse haus Vienna, Museo Apparente Naples or at the Research Centre DESY in Hamburg.

He also works in scenography and video for theatre, especially for experimental music theatre

and performance; for instance in the series Black Box 20_21 at the Hamburg State Opera or for Leben eines Eindringlings from Branko Miliskovic at Kampnagel.
